A garlic grater. Rub a peeled clove over the rough patch in the middle and it comes apart into a paste; pour the oil in afterwards and the dish goes to the table as it is. Cream and white glass streaked grey-brown like weathered wood, with a single dark line drawn across it and two small blue-green marks off to one side. The texture is fired into the glass rather than cut, so there is nothing to wear smooth. Wash it by hand.
